The volunteers of Amesbury for Africa work on site at the International Medical Equipment Collaborative on the second Saturday of each month.
IMEC is an organization that works with medical equipment donors, volunteers, shepherds (or project sponsors) and caregivers. They provide second-hand medical equipment and supplies to the health-care facilities in developing countries.
Our service day consists of preparing equipment for shipment. We work in teams to assemble wheelchairs, hospital bed, desks, and other supplies onto the wooden pallets, secure them with strapping and/or shrink wrap, and load them onto a shipping container. You do not have to be athletic or muscular to work a service day. All tasks are completed by a group of people working together.
Usually the IMEC services days are scheduled for the second Saturday of the month, but they are sometime rescheduled due to conflicts or lack of volunteer labor. Please check our event calendar to confirm. It takes a minimum of four people to begin work each Saturday, so any help is always needed. If you cannot participate with AFA on our service day, you can check out IMEC's website for other ways to help. In lieu of volunteering, you may consider making a financial donation, or a donation of supplies and equipment.
